Teen Shoots Calif. Officer, Tries to Elude Police by Hiding in Trash Can

A Sacramento police K-9 unit was needed to track down and apprehend a 19-year-old man who reportedly pointed his weapon at people and exchanged gunfire with officers.

An armed man who hid in a trash can from California police after he reportedly exchanged gunfire with officers and aimed the weapon at others Sunday.

The incident involving Sacramento police happened at about 9 a.m. KXTV-TV reports. Multiple calls came into the department concerning a 19-year-old gunman on a second-floor apartment breezeway.

Once police reached the scene, the teen began firing, and one of the shots wounded an officer. The man then fled from police.

A K-9 officer eventually caught up with the suspect, who was hiding in a trash can. The man suffered minor injuries, and he was taken into custody to await charges.

"We want to thank the public for their assistance and cooperation while this incident unfolded,” Police Sgt. Sabrina Briggs said in a statement. “We are grateful that no officers were injured during this very dangerous call and for the hard work and professionalism of our officers."swat
